Each one-hour seminar covers a popular topic in ISIS or Beilstein's CrossFire. An experienced MDL instructor presents the key concepts through live demonstration and answers questions from the participants. Although not a replacement for hands-on training, seminars can effectively meet the needs for:

This seminar teaches users who are familiar with ISIS/Draw how to customize ISIS/Draw to facilitate common tasks and standardize structures. Participants learn how to create templates for frequently drawn structures, customize the template menu, and use the Options Menu to prepare for publications and presentations.
This seminar teaches users who are familiar with ISIS/Draw how to draw biopolymers. Participants learn how to draw amino acid sequences and customize lists of residue codes and the sequence menu.
Determining the Appropriate Search Type
This seminar introduces ISIS/Base users to the three different types of structure searches. Participants receive an overview of an exact molecule, a substructure, and a similarity search, and examples of when to use each search type in a research environment.
Substructure Searching Options in ISIS/Base
This seminar familiarizes ISIS/Base users with the options for structure representation in searches. Participants learn how to apply substructure query features to atoms and bonds, and how to search for salts and isotopes.
Searching for Structures with Specific Substitution
This seminar teaches experienced ISIS/Base users how to control substitution at specific sites with Rgroup queries. Participants learn when and how to create Rgroup queries.
This seminar teaches ISIS/Base users how to manipulate ISIS lists. Participants learn how to save and delete lists, add and delete items from lists, combine lists, and import and export lists.
This seminar teaches experienced ISIS/Base users how to create or modify forms to control the display of information. Participants learn how to build new forms or modify existing forms for local or remote databases, including corporate databases.
Creating Local Databases
This seminar shows experienced ISIS/Base users the basic steps for creating local databases to store project or other data. Participants learn how to create a new database, modify the database definition of an existing database, or extract a portion of an existing database to a new local database.
Constructing Advanced Queries with the Query Builder
This seminar teaches advanced ISIS/Base users how to construct queries using the Query Builder. The participants learn how to query multiple fields, apply logic between query criteria, include structures in a Query Builder query, and save and restore Query Builder queries.
Organizing Search Results with SAR Tables
This seminar teaches ISIS/Base users how to export ISIS/Base structures and data to Microsoft Excel. Participants learn how to use the SAR (Structure Activity Relationship) function of ISIS/Base to export data and structures to Excel, and how to format the resulting spreadsheet.
Searching for Reactions
This seminar provides an overview of reaction searching to ISIS/Base users. Participants learn the features of the Reaction Browser, including a summary of Query tools and strategies for reaction searching.
Clustering Reaction Browser
This seminar teaches Reaction Browser users how to organize search results into relevant groups by clustering. Participants learn how to specify the field to cluster, how to recluster a cluster on a different field, and how to save and print clusters.
Searching the SPORE Database
This seminar introduces Reaction Browser users to the SPORE (Solid Phase Organic Reactions) database. Participants learn how to search structures and data that use solid phase methodology, and how to view solid phase reaction data.
ISIS for Excel for the Current ISIS User
This seminar teaches experienced ISIS/Base users how to search ISIS databases using ISIS for Excel. Participants learn how to construct structure and data queries, and how to manipulate and format search results.
Making Calculations from Experimental Data with ISIS for Excel
This seminar teaches ISIS for Excel users how to use data from ISIS/Base or other sources for calculations. Participants learn how to import biological data from a database to an Excel spreadsheet and use the data for calculations. Use of the pivot table wizard to generate reports will be demonstrated.
Using Rgroups in ISIS for Excel
This seminar teaches ISIS for Excel users how to display Rgroups in separate columns in ISIS for Excel. Participants learn how to use Rgroup queries, how to view substituent structures, formulas, or SMILES strings, and how to filter and sort by SMILES strings.
Creating Pivot Fields in ISIS for Excel
This seminar demonstrates to ISIS for Excel users how to create new fields by pivoting on an existing field. Participants learn what pivot fields are, and how to generate and use pivot fields.
Transition to CrossFire 2000
This seminar introduces experienced CrossFire users to Beilstein Commander 2000. Participants learn the changes and enhancements for this version of the software.
Exploring the Beilstein Database
This seminar introduces new users to the Beilstein database. Participants learn how to do simple structure and data searches with CrossFire, and the basics of viewing search results.
Creating User Views in CrossFire
This seminar teaches CrossFire users how to customize the display of search results. Participants learn how to create user views that display only the desired fields in their hit lists, and how to save and restore user views.
Searching for Specific Reaction Conditions in CrossFire
This seminar teaches CrossFire users how to search for specific reaction conditions. Participants learn how to include reaction conditions as query criteria, and how to search an existing hitset with additional criteria to retrieve only the most relevant reactions from the Beilstein database.
This seminar introduces experienced CrossFire users to the EcoPharm database. Participants receive an overview of the ecological and pharmacological data in the EcoPharm database.
Using CrossFire for Excel
This seminar teaches experienced CrossFire users how to use CrossFire for Excel. Participants learn how to search, how to open a saved hitset, and how to display and sort appropriate fields from the Beilstein database.
Searching Your Corporate Database
This seminar teaches ISIS/Base users how to access data in their corporate database. Participants will learn how to build better queries and locate the exact data that they need. This seminar is customized for an in-house database and is devoted to data searches that feature the unique data structure of a corporate database.
